Greetings. I brought home a female Pekinese 5 weeks ago. She had awful breathing problems and a ton of snot for the first few days. Then I started training her, and letting her play outside for short periods of time; her gasping spirts became less common. After a week of adjusting to her new environment, I started taking her for short walks and increased her training time; her breathing problems all but stopped.

I've heard others say that Pekinese don't need a lot of excercise, but I'd like to disagree. After I began to give her daily walks her breathing problems ceased and she has no mucus overflow, either.

During the past week we've gone on several long walks. Twice for about an hour and today for 3 hours. And this is on a very hilly forest trail.

I've also noticed that any smell that she had before is now gone. So I would highly recommend regular exercise. I think the same is true for humans, too, in that exercise is a key tool to keeping us healthy.
