Yes, coprofagia is gross but all dogs will eat poop when given half the chance. My two Pekes routinely check the cats' litter boxes so we have to make sure we get there before they do.

Eating their own poop is not as common - thank goodness. There seems to be no clear reason - such as dietary deficiency - for this behaviour but I wonder whether it might be a response to stress. Pekes are sensitive little dogs and five months old is very young and very small. This could well be a phase your puppy will grow out of. In the meantime, could you supervise her when she goes potty just the way you did when you were potty-training her to make sure that her waste is cleared away immediately? Please be patient with her, she is still just a baby.
