Subject: Allergic to one peke but not the other?

My husband and I just got a 9-week old peke puppy yesterday. He's adorable and is everything we always wanted except that today my husband is showing signs of being allergic to him. But we already have a pekingese and he has never shown signs of being allergic to her. Can he be allergic to the new one and not the other? What can we do? We don't want to part with the puppy and, since we're students, we can't afford allergy shots, etc. Advice?
