Subject: Peke Intelligence

My husband and I are constantly amazed by our little peke, Truman. We were his "aunt" and "uncle" from his earliest puppy days, but became his "mom" and "dad" three months ago. He knows every toy by name (and he has over a dozen), recognizes the "raccoon house" (a cat lover's home where the raccoons come and finish up the cats' leftover outdoor dinners) when we ask what's happening there on his walks, and knows the distinct barks of all of his neighbor dogs (even those who live pent-up in yards and don't have the benefit of a walk), again by name. He barked at our pool guy only when he brought his new assistant for the first time (a truly good watchdog).

Pekes are remarkable, beautiful, intelligent little dogs!

Anyone interested in offering a home to one should look into the various "rescue" programs.

We've met and befriended some very lovely, and loving pekes at our local "Bark Park" who were rescued from our local shelter.
