"The ugly reality is that Iraq has become an arena for American sadists to act out their perverted fantasies"
show me. I would love to know that every single video clip in that article is a fabrication. I would be thrilled to know that soldiers representing me and my country never did any of those monstrous acts.
But if those video clips are accurate (and we might assume that at least the ones filmed by news media are. And I think it'd be hard to fake video taken from a bomber plane. Maybe I'm wrong, it just seems there are too many technical things in it to make it a successful fake.) then his statement is accurate. Harsh, but accurate.
Normally men in the US would never get away with taking pot shots at cars like they were in an arcade game and posting it on YouTube. Normally gangs of adult men would not beat the c***p out of teenage boys to the cheers of friends and post it on YouTube and get away with it. Those are sadistic acts that we only tolerate in video games or movies (thus "fantasies") NOT real life.
These are not acts that are tolerated in our society in the least degree, but not only are they tolerated in Iraq, the perpetrators are proud enough of them to post them on the Internet.
I would LOVE it if an independent source (sorry, I don't trust Bush's folks--they're the ones who think torture is a lovely thing. It's no wonder that the rank and file get carried away when Bush and Gonzales have already given them the green light.) could come out and prove these videos are all hoaxes. Perhaps Snopes? Any evidence these are faked?
It would put my mind at ease to know that our soldiers are representing the highest ideals of our society.
It would also ease my mind if every American who saw these clips were outraged instead of defending, excusing or minimizing these acts. It would also go a long way if, instead of attacking the messenger, we could prove the message to be false.
