Well, I can say that I know that the border down the road from me about 25 miles has kept a lot of riff raff out. I have a friend who's husband is a border agent and they routinely deny entrance to and arrest those who they think will cause trouble...many of them on watch lists.
We haven't had anything here since 9-11. I can think of two reasons for that. First, you are right and it was an inside job and another one won't happen until there is another need to shake the people up a bit. Second, a lot of people are doing a good job to see that it doesn't happen.
Do I feel safer...not really, because sooner or later, someone is going to succeed, but I would feel less safe if we sat back and did nothing because I don't feel that would really change anything...the jihadist movement would continue. In comparision, Europe sat back and did nothing and Hilter gained power.
The answers as to who was right and who was wrong won't be known until it is all played out. For the record, I do believe that we will get to the point that it will be ALL corrupt . I just don't think we are there quite yet although definately moving in that direction.
When you refer to us killing Iraqi people, do you refer to all death that occurs as a result of the war or US soldiers commiting atrosities...or do you see them as the same because of your belief in the illegality of the war?
I'm curious too, what do you think about Afghanistan? My dh is in the brigade that was extended recently. He should have been home this month. Now he won't be back until June or July. When he gets home, he will have been gone around 18 months. I believe they had to keep him and the others, because the Taliban and Al Qaeda have been encouraged by the negitivity of the press and many in the US about Iraq and feel if they can create the same situation there, the negitivity will start there too and perhaps they can get us out. spring is coming and the mountain passes will be clear againg soon. Spring is not going to be pretty there. Wasn't it Osama bin Laden who said that we will never succeed over there because the US public doesn't have what it takes to make the sacrifices to prevail?
If the truth be known, I don't like any of it... I don't like the killing , I don't like my husband being gone from our family for so long, I don't like all the money that could be used for so many better causes, being used to fund such madness...but there is STILL a big chunk of me that feels, if we don't do it, they will come get us here, so to that end, I believe we ARE protecting our national interests.
If I hadn't witnessed and heard what I did in Europe, I would possibly feel quite differently.
