One of my guideline scriptures is a statement by Lorenzo Snow, a statement tht was supported by Joseph Smith: As man now is, God once was. As God is now, man may become.
I was helped in finding the second criteria by a man in our ward who was on the Church committee to produce the manuals being use by the Relief Society and priesthood. The three steps are living worthily, receiving the ordinances of the Temple, and gaining knowledge.
I read a lot of the posts and responses tonight. I do not know what purpose statements I read have to do with preparing to become as God is now.
I had my annual heart checkup, starting with an echo cardiogram (using Ultrasound). This week, I had a stress test my heart was stressed chemically), and a series of 'pictures' of my heart from various angles, using a radioactive tracer to highlight things.
Friday afternon, I spent over an hour with my family doctor, going over the findings. One finding really concerned him--one of the functions tested was the ejection function of my heart--how well my heart is doing pumping blood through my body. The reading from the nuclear tracer had 19%. He told me that if that reading was correct, I would be in the hospital with two or three weeks to live.
The percentage calculated by the echo cardiogram was 34%. He called my cardiologist to see which was correct--the figure from the echo was more accurate. My cardiologist also made the comment that I should have been dead five years ago.
There is a reason I am still alive. I reach out to 'touch' others, empathysing trying to become as God is now. Living worthily, going to the Temple, and gaining knowledge.
I wonder what was accomplished by all of the posts and responses regarding Iraq, Bush, etc. One of the scriptures cited was the Jesus said He had not come to bring peace, but the sword. This is what is happening in the world. In my mind, using our minds which are capable of helping make us more like our Father in Heaven.
I wish there could be as many posts and responses concerning becoming as God is now as there was in presenting information that has little if any value.
