As far as I know this to be accurate, he was the one who orchestrated the activities and volunteer assistance at the Games. The local Boy Scout chapters offered their assistance (imagine the merit badge ops for them) but weren't allowed to help while wearing their uniforms and were limited to young men 18 years of age, so they wouldn't have any association with the BSA. That was right around the time of the New Jersey Supreme Court decision re: BSA.
Now, I can certainly understand safety, with regard to the age restrictions, but the changes came only after some protests about using them in the first place. The uniform was a symbol...we are supposed to be light on a hill.
Not only that, and this one is really unfair but I have to ask the question: Massachussetts judges ruled that gay marriage was allowed in MA, but he did nothing to uphold the rule of law that was on the books, whereas the governator of CA did when the mayor of SF was allowing gay and lesbian couples to get marriage licenses.
