Interpreting a religion with regard to what? Doctrine or the motives/evangelical fervor? You see, what scares me about fundamentalist Islam is that the hue and cry over the Mohammed cartoons, the alleged abuse of the Koran, and other incidents, either real or imagined, is that people died because of someone taking offense. Not only that, these are the same clerics and mullahs that threaten death to people who point out the inconsistencies in their thinking...clerics and mullahs who say Islam is the religion of peace. If that is the case, then why kill to prove a point? It is a valid question that the fundamentalist groups refuse to answer and respond instead with threats to the people who dare to question them. That is not an interpretation of their religion, it is what they have said and how they have acted. Their word for infidels is 'kaffir.' It is a derogatory term for non believers, and the Koran calls for either the killing or the conversion of kaffir.
