the king/pharoah/caesar was considered a god. He was above the law because the law eminated from him. He held in his hands all power over life and death, law and judgement, public morality, religion and worship, etc. When Moses (the "Lawgiver", actually the mouthpiece of the Lawgiver)led Israel out of Egypt, the FIRST commandment was "I am the Lord your God, you shall have NO other gods before me." Then God gave them self rule. The lesson is clear: When The Lord God is our god, the people are self-ruled.

That is why the Founders divided the powers of ruling--because they didn't want any single man (or body of men) to make themselves a god for the people, in theory or practice. The power to make law is separated from the power to arrest or enforce law, and separated yet again from the power to judge guilt under the law. The power to declare war is separate from the power to direct the course of the war and separate yet again from the power to man the war.

When Congress abdicated their powers and the Pres and Judiciary began usurping powers, they created for us a new god, the god of the state.

It would appear that we have turned from the one true God--both in our worship and in our public life. We now have a pharoah, a caesar who's powers to act as a god--to be the font of all law--are seemingly unlimited. Very very troublesome.
