Martial law--hmmmmmm....not sure. The first duty of gov is to protect innocent life and property. With rioters and looters ruling the streets and the police force overwhelmed, it seems to me that restoring order should be the first item of business. Is there any way to accomplish that without martial law?
Gov aid--ignoring, of course, the irony that we spend more on Iraq in one day than we have on all this yr's natural disasters? New Orleans is an important shippping lane and port, it's health and funtioning vital to all midwestern states. That combined with the oil refineries and drilling in the area makes the area pretty vital to national well-being. But exactly how much that interest should cost us and what form the aid should take, I'm not sure.
