Subject: CP is in a crisis

I don't know how much you've followed what the Constitution Party has been doing--if you get email alerts or newsletters. But this weekend (the 16th and 17th) is the National Committee Meeting. The party is on the verge of tearing itself apart with internal squabblings. It would really be good if you would pray that the peacemakers prevail at this meeting.

Every new third party attracts a good share of nut cases and zealots. In this case there is a faction of religious purists who are intent on weeding out the "tares" from the party. They believe that God cannot bless our party or our labors if we tolertate unrighteousness within the party. Their focus started with LDS and Catholics but it is now centered on the state chairman of NV who is LDS. It doesn't help any that this LDS state leader lacks any notion of tact and has said some pretty inflamatory things. He seems intent on saying things that will only make the non-LDS madder.

Twice now there have been resolutions to expel the NV CP affiliate from the National organization. This would be a terrible thing for the party. NV has one of the strongest, most vital state organizations, they've been around for over 25 yrs, run a full slate of candidates every year and 5% of the voters are registered with the NV CP affiliate. They contributed a huge ammount of leadership and vision to the national party, as well as monetary support. Both times the resolutions to expel NV have failed, but now, thanks to this LDS person's thoughtless comments, the outrage has reached a fevered pitch.

There are already 8-10 other states that have said they will withdraw if NV is expelled--one of them being CA, the strongest state party of all. I'm sure more will follow. If this resolution passes, it will basically be the end of the national CP. If it doesn't pass there may still be so much rancor and hard feelings that I don't know how much of the party will survive.

If you are concerned about the health and future of the CP, please pray for peace and reconciliation to prevail at this meeting. If you know your CP state leader, call or email him today and ask that he work for reconciliation.
