when my dh was stationed at Ft. Bragg, I was talking with one of my dh's nurse's about Somolia and my brother's experiences there. The nurse I was talking with got very upset and said that my db should get the *&%# out of there and they (the Somoli's) were not to be trusted. I looked at her name tag as she left for a minute, only to realize that she had the same last name as one of the soldiers who was killed there. If you read the book or saw the movie, you would recognize the name. The killed soldier was her husband. It was one of those, "open mouth, insert foot" moments.

The school overreacted, but it was a rather insensitive question.
