I'm not Jean, so my answer may not be satisfactory, but "profiling" isn't working anyway. "We" (whoever we are; this assumes that "we" are united, which, most of us on this forum might agree, we aren't) can't prove that we have been keeping terrorists out; we don't know when/where/if they may strike again, or who they may be, and there is suspicion that those who should have cared most (i.e. the president) didn't do what they could have to have prevented it.
"We" would be foolish to imagine that the only possible act of "terrorism" is the sort of thing that happened 9/11; we don't know who is involved entirely in the events of the world in chaos, and we don't know who will come onto the stage next.
If you think of it in terms of dishonest people right here within our own borders, it's rather like trying to stuff rags into the gaps around windows and doors when the roof has been ripped off.

My opinion only--which may be debated by someone from the order hymenoptera, if I remember my entymology.
