Subject: Star Wars and our current mess

OK, we finally got to see Star Wars yesterday--great movie! I've been reading all the commentaries on the movie at LewRockwell.com, about how the neo-cons are just having a hissy fit over the movie, that it's a commentary on Bush and our current imperialistic agenda.

There were several points in the movie that I found interesting compared with current affairs. I found it interesting that the Senate first relinquished powers to Palpatine in order to settle trade disputes. (Episode I) Sounds like Congress giving the Pres Fast Track authority. Then the Senate grants more authority to "prosecute the war" (Episode II) and Palpatine finally becomes supreme Emperor, to the applause of the Senate, in order to restore peace and security. I found Padme's comment very moving "So that is how freedom is lost--to the sound of applause."

Dh also commented on the clones--very like the product of today's public school system. Not taught to think, taught only to work hard, be a good cog in the machinery of our economy/government, no allowance for individuality, no one can really excell or go faster than the planned curriculum, just stay put nice and neat into the PS mold. (OK, now, please don't take offense at this, it's not intended to offend, only a commentary on how our PS system is working so well to supply clones for our current war.)

Your thoughts? Have any of you read any of the LewRockwell articles? What do you think are the important/interesting parallels?
