The JOD is the Journal Of Discourses, a collection of sermons given by the prophets of this dispensation.

How this relates to my son is that we were told that our son could not be in the scouting program in our ward.
I asked for the evidence of this decision in writing.
Long story short, I went to the JOD and read Brigham Young's thoughts on bishops...none too kindly either.

I didn't use those quotes but did point out that our bishop had asked us to do something for which he refused to provide any credible evidence; namely why our LD son had to leave the scouting program in that ward.
I know why, but I couldn't say it to the bishop.

We wrote to the seventy because the ward refused to pay their camp fees last year and we held their feet to the fire and the seventy told them to do it. Now it has gotten worse and well, in a nutshell, I was told my recommend was in jeopardy. Oh really? On what grounds?

He backed down. It wasn't up to him and he couldn't make it stick. I will use my family connections if necessary, but it is still simmering. In the meantime, we are being obedient and we will see how it goes.
