Howdy gents, it's me, Ken. I have something of announcement here, and a request for feedback.
John and I have discussed this at length and we agree that the Hogalum Funhouse ought to be shelved for the foreseeable future, for the following reasons:
1) Slowness -- They're just too damn slow, especially since these new animated banners started appearing. John has grown tired of waiting for the page to load, and I am a bit sick of it myself
2) Security -- Though this page isn't listed on any search engines (to my knowledge), it would be easy enough for someone to happen upon it simply by typing http://www.voy.com/{random number}/ and I for one do not like the idea that some stranger might read these pages. Also, John has had some disturbing experiences with banner ads that seem to be targeted at us based on our current discussions
3) Archival -- It is very difficult to save our messages in any easily retrievable format.
4) Communication -- This board (and Curt's Hogalum Central Board) were both intended to improve communication between the four of us, but that doesn't seem to be happening. It seems most of our posts are of the "hey, how come no one's posting" variety, which is tedious and not very informative or enjoyable.
So, what will we do instead of posting on this board? My recommendation is that we return to email. Email is fast, relatively private, easily archived, and I hope that it will facilitate better communication and more true sharing.
I will begin archiving the messages on this board in a more user friendly arrangement and post it all when I have time. We can start emailing whenever someone has something to say...
Will we have another discussion board in the future? Probably, but I think it will take another form. John is looking for a better script, and I hope to launch a new discussion board at some point. However, I think it should focus on some group creative outlet or another to be determined at a later date.
Anyway, Jeff, Curt, what do you think? Agree? Disagree? I'll confess I've pretty much made up my mind, but I am open to input, so have at me...
5) Just tried to post this message and the frigging thing errored on me (fortunately, I was able to hit "back" and save my work). This kind of thing happens all too often.
