You have been walking for who knows how long. You glance at your watch. It's 3:30. You decide to head over to the museum. You turn back the way you came, and head for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

You reach your destination. You stand outside the museum, gazing up. You allow yourself a moment to simply admire the building before going inside. You take your time in making your way to the Egyptian art exhibit. That flock of butterflies from before begins to flutter slightly. Somewhat exasperated, you mentally tell them to hush, and wander toward the rendezvous location.

Upon arriving, your interest is drawn to a glass display case a necklace. A pectoral necklace, actually. You furrow your brow, studying the hieroglyphics. It's been a while since you've used that knowledge. Senwosret... "The god of the rising sun grants life and dominion over all that the sun encircles for one million one hundred thousand years to King Khakheperre... King Khakheperre was Senwosret the 2nd. It was found among the jewelry of... Princess Sit-hathor-yunet, you think. You're so intent on the contents of the display case that you never hear the footsteps behind you. The appearance of a reflection in the glass behind you makes you jump. You whirl around to face Kenneth Irons, who's standing directly behind you. He gazes down at you, that omni-present smirk quirking his lips. Your heart is pounding from the start he gave you. At least that's what you're telling yourself.

"Did you enjoy the roses?" Kenneth asks, taking a finger and gently tracing the line of your jaw.

"Yes, they were beautiful," you answer softly, your breath hitching unconsciously in your throat.

"I hope I didn't frighten you," he adds as an afterthought.

"Oh, no. Not at all," you retort, with a shaky smile. If you thought your heart was pounding before... His smirk grows.

You look up at him, meeting his gaze steadily, trying to regain some control. Ten minutes you've been in his company, and already your sense of balance is off kilter.

He moves forward to stand next to you, his shoulder brushing yours. He studies the display case you were so intently focused on mere moments ago.

"What do you know about this piece of jewelry?" Kenneth asks you. You pause, biting your lip thoughtfully. Thank goodness for a photographic memory.

"Um... The falcons are symbols of the sun god, and they hold a hieroglyph that means 'encircled'. The two ankhs, on either side of the king's name-which is Khakheperre, or Senwosret II, by the way- mean life. The snakes the two ankhs are suspended from stand for Nekhbet and Udjo, the traditional protector goddesses of the king. The figure supporting the cartouche is the god Heh, I think. Those two palm ribs he's clutching symbolize millions of years. The entire thing reads 'The god of the rising sun grants life and dominion over all that the sun encircles for one million one hundred thousand years to King Khakheperre'" You shrug. "And that's about the sum of my knowledge."

"Not bad," he comments approvingly. Kenneth offers his left arm. "Shall we?" You can't help but grin, and slip your arm through his.

"Of course," you reply. The two of you stroll off. Soon he removes his arm from yours and moves it to around your waist. The closeness sends a shiver down your spine.

The two of you wander aimlessly, until you reach the Greek and Roman art exhibit. You stop in front of a case containing a bowl depicting some scene from Greek life or mythos. Moving away from his side (albeit a little reluctantly) you slowly walk a circle around the display case.

"Euxitheos made it..." you murmur, almost to yourself, translating the inscripitions on the bowl, "Euphronios painted it..." You continue walking to the other side, and stop, "Leagros is handsome..."

Kenneth comes up behind you, leaning down to bring his lips close to your ear.

"You, my dear, are a very intriguing young woman," he whispers softly, his breath tickling your ear. You partially turn your face to his.

"Oh, am I?" you answer softly.

"You doubt me?" he asks you, a hint of amusement coloring his voice. He puts a hand on your shoulder, and slowly turns you around to face him.

You are face to face with Kenneth. Your heart is pounding at a highly unnatural rate. Absently you wonder if he can hear it. For some reason, you don't think it would surprise you if he did.

"You should never doubt me," he murmurs. You can feel the warmth of his breath on your face. You tilt your head to the side, and gaze up at him.

A mysterious smile quirks the corner of your mouth. Arching one elegant eyebrow you reply, "I didn't actually say I doubted you, but for arguments sake, let's say that I do. Are there any potential consequences I should be aware of?"

"Oh, the consequences would be QUITE serious," Kenneth answers, drawing even closer to you. He leans down until his lips are about to brush yours... You laugh, and break away.

"Well, then I shall be very careful to never doubt you," you toss over your shoulder, turning your attention to a nearby glass case. Unnoticed by you, Kenneth gazes after you with an expression that at first speaks mild annoyance, but then is transformed to one of curious enjoyment. You glance up, surprised to see him staring at you with that enigmatic smile of his. You slowly smile in return.

The rest of the time at the museum passed as if it was merely minutes. Before you know it, you have covered most, if not all, of the exhibits. The two of you stop near the entrance/exit to the museum. He is once again standing centimeters away from you. You look up at him steadily.

"Will you join me for dinner?" he asks you.

"I'd love to," you begin, "...but I've got other plans."

His only reaction is a raising of his eyebrows, but you think you see a flash of... something in his eyes. You can't tell what, though...

"With who?"

You smile again. It's actually almost a smirk. Almost. "Oh, with a good friend of mine."

Kenneth moves away from you, only to walk around until he stands directly behind you. He leans down, bringing his lips close to your ear.

"Then tomorrow evening, you're mine."

You turn, so that your lips nearly brush his. You pause, letting the moment linger. "Maybe," you breathe. You lean up a bit, to brush a kiss on his cheek. "Thank you for a wonderful time."

He waits until you start to move away, before pulling you close, and pressing a kiss to your lips. Stepping back, he smirks.

"Likewise."

You answer his smirk with one of your own, and begin to walk away. You slow to a stop, and gaze back over one shoulder.

"See you tomorrow," you add, before turning and walking out the door. If you had looked back, you would have seen Kenneth watching you contemplatively. But you don't, instead continuing down the steps leading away from the museum. You reach the sidewalk, and glance at your watch. It's around 7:15. You decide to head toward Felipe's to meet Jake.

During your walk, your mind is elsewhere. No matter how much you try, a certain blonde businessman keeps creeping into your thoughts. He's quite an intriguing man... intelligent, handsome.... And able to keep me off kilter without so much as an effort. But it had been slightly different this time. You had given exactly what you'd taken. Maybe even caught him off guard a little bit. Not that you were able to tell. You can't help but grin as you continue down the sidewalk.

You reach Felipe's, and go inside. Glancing around, you shrug off your jacket, and make your way over to a pool table. Draping you jacket over the table, you lean on the table, waiting.

"Hey, you!" a voice calls from behind you. You turn to see Jake on the opposite side of the table. "Ready to lose some money?" You laugh, and slide off the table.

"Only if you are," you respond with a grin. He takes off his jacket as well, and you drape them over a chair. The two of you grab cue sticks, and start to play.

Jake breaks, and manages to actually sink a few shots, before he misses one. You laugh.

"Not bad," you tell him. He looks at you as if to say, "Top that." You answer his unspoken challenge by moving to the pool table. He stands back, and watches. Your game is off tonight, and you only sink two shots.

"Ooh!" Jake comments, and you give him a good-natured shove.

"I'm just warming up!" you protest. He laughs.

"Sure," he cracks. You gesture to the table grandly for him to show you how it's done. He "takes the floor" as it were.

As the two of you play, he is actually beating you. By a surprising amount of points. You haven't been concentrating on the game like you should. With a bit of effort, you manage to shove all your preoccupations aside.

"Hope you brought my money," Jake said with a grin.

"Your money?" you comment. "The game's not over yet."

With that, you step up. Now you're back on your game. You sink maybe 5 shots, before glancing up at him.

"What were you saying?" you ask, as you sink yet another cueball. He lets out a groan.

"I spoke too soon."

You win that game, and he hands over the 10 dollars he owes you, since he lost. You laugh, and tuck the bill into your pocket.

"Up for a few more games?"

"Sure, why not?" Jake answers. You let him get the table reset, and go get some drinks.

You return bearing two bottles of beer, handing him one. He raises his bottle in salute.

"Thanks."

"No problem."

You start the second game. Neither of you really has an advantage, until the end. This time he wins. You hand over the 10 dollars to him, as well as the extra five you always add to each consecutive game. He grins, and puts it in his pocket.

"One more game?" he asks. You laugh, and nod.

"Of course." This night out of just hanging and playing pool has helped you get your mind... off other things.

"You break."

This game is the longest one of the evening. Finally, you sink the last shot. You turn to Jake, and shoot him an impish grin.

"Pay up."

He lets out a mock groan, and fishes the money out of his pocket. You hold out your hand for it. Jake grins, and almost puts it in your palm, but not quite. He pulls it back, just out of reach. You reach out and yank it from his hand. You laugh, and he does as well.

The two of you head out of Felipe's a short while later. Jake has his arm around your shoulders, and you have your arm around his waist. You walk with him to his car.

"Hey, want a ride?" he asks.

"Sure," you reply. You hop in on the passenger side, and Jake drives off.

With the way he drives, you arrive back at your apartment in no time. After giving him a friendly kiss on the cheek, you hop out of his car. You jog up the stairs and into your building.

Fiddling in your pocket for your keys, you unlock your door, and step inside. Closing and locking it behind you, you remain leaning against the wood. Sighing softly, you push yourself away from the door, and go into your bedroom.

Slipping off your jacket, you change into a pair of purple silk boxers and a tank top, before climbing into bed. One hand beneath the pillow, you curl up beneath the blanket. You close your eyes, and slowly drift off to sleep...
