she has escaped from the orphanage in ATOH, a triumphant glow about her 15 year old body. carrying nothing but the clothes on her back, she looks around and finds an empty den. she spots a beanbag chair in the corner and flops down on it with a sigh, remembering what had happened, and what she imagined had happened...

"You're pregnant? How?!" Karlyn's soon-to-be father demanded of his tearful girlfriend.
"Remember when we had sex a few weeks ago? That's how," her mother sighed.
"I can't handle this...I'm not ready to be a father!!" With that, her father stormed out of her house, never to be seen again...

"Mom, Dad, I can't take care of her anymore. She cries all the time and she keeps waking me up...I can't be a mother!" And she left the baby with Karlyn's grandparents.

"KARLYN!!! GET DOWN HERE!" her grandfather's angry voice sounded from downstairs. Unwillingly, the 12-year-old went downstairs and to her grandfather where he stood angrily. He pointed at a beer can that had spilled on the floor. "You spilled that, didn't you?!" he demanded. Her youthful innocence told her she couldn't lie, so she nodded her head yes. "You little *****!! Come here!" her grandpa screamed as he took her roughly by the arm to once more spank her for minutes on end for a mere infraction...

She took all of her money that night, and what she could find of her grandparents'. She unlocked the doors and quickly ran out of the house to spend 3 years on the streets living as best as she could...

The policeman took her by the arms and for one split second she thought it was her grandfather. Squirming, she screamed for help from anyone before the policeman said, "Calm down, it's a police officer. I'm gonna take you to a better place." Unwillingly, she was dragged into the police car and driven to the orphanage where she stayed only 3 hours before escaping...

realizing she was crying, she brushes the tears from her eyes and cheeks, hoping no one had seen. without parents, without a job, she had heard about this place and decided to live here for awhile...
