Hey there, how are we doing today? Good I hope. I'm going to give you an ultrasound to see if we can detect the heartbeat and see the fetus ok? Just lie down here on this exam table and expose your belly for me -she flips on the monitor and grabs a tube of lubricant. She squeezes a large amount onto her stomach and spreads it with the hand device. A picture pops up on the screen, though to the untrained eye the picture would not look like a fetus. She points to the monitor. See this? That is the yolk sac and here is the baby's head. The baby is no larger than about an inch and a half. -She moves the hand device a smidgen and a pounding noise is audible in the speakers- And that....is your baby's heartbeat. Healthy and strong! -she smiles and flips the monitor off- That's what we were looking for and everything sounds GREAT! -presses a button and the printer starts- I'll give you this picture before you leave. -hands it to her-
