Subject: Leptospira Vaccine

Hi all, I have a question about the safety of using this vaccine on Cresteds. I read, when I first adopted my boys about 10 years ago, that Lepto vaccines are dangerous for Cresteds and I have always made sure that they didn't have them included with their shots. My Vet has recently brought to my attention that there has been a rise in lepto cases in the area and I actually know someone who's 2 year minature Schnauzer died from lepto last summer. My Vet wants to include the lepto vaccine in Bailey and Charlie's shots. When I mentioned that I didn't think the vaccine is safe for Cresteds my Vet didn't know much about that and she was wondering if it was the older vaccines that caused issues or if it is still a problem? Does anyone have any information or thoughts on the lepto vaccine? Do the risks outweigh the potential benefits? My boys are both powderpuffs, they are 10 and 12 years old. Charlie is 7 lbs (cobby) and Bailey is 14 lbs (deer). We just lost our beloved 11 year old shep/lab mix, Kaiser, to cancer so I am extra paranoid about the health and safety of my babies. Thank you so much for any information you can offer!
