Has anyone's Crested had trouble with anesthesia?

I have taken very good care of Suzi & kept up with her dental. She never had a reaction to the anesthsia. She even had a big surgery on her leg in 2005 & came through that with flying colors. No problems at all.

A couple of months ago she had a procedure to remove a lump & had a very scary reaction to the anesthesia, Ketamine & Valium mix & then Isoflorane for maintenance.

I was observing the surgery & her heart rate starting dropping rapidly. When it reached the 50's I had to step out of the room & the Doc stopped the anesthesia & brought her out of it. I couldn't stand there watching her crash & knowing that I couldn't do anything to help her. I also knew that my presense there would only distract him from working her if she went into arrest. I'm a cardiac nurse & family shouldn't be present in an emergency resusitation attempt. Thank God she responded & came through it. He was going to do her teeth at that time, including pulling a bad tooth that she had, but he didn't because he had to reverse the anesthesia quickly.

Last night I noticed that that tooth was very loose along with the one next to it. There is also a small white spot on her upper gum, above the teeth, that I believe may be a little absess. I called her Doc immediately. I also called & left a message for her Cardiologist. My Doc called me back today & he will speak to the Cardiologist to concur on the anesthesia they should use. I may have it done at the Cardiologist's office because she will be standing by just in case.

We are considering using Propanol to do the dental. Suzi has Mitral Valve Endocardiosis. Basically that is a thicking of the Mitral Valve. It is unable to close properly & therefore it results in a mumur due to the backflow in the heart.

Has anyone else had this happen? Do you know what the Doc used on your dog? Did your dog have a drop in heart rate & is so, what did the Doc used the next time you had a procedure done?

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated by both of us. Thank you!!!

Annette & Suzi
