I suggest you join a few of the crestie chat lists to learn more about the breed. Some very friendly ones are abfabcrested@yahoogroups.com, crestedcorner@yahoogroups.com and crestiedfriends@yahoogroups.com. All three of these groups consist of show persons/breeders, pet owners, rescuers & people researching the breed.

A cc would be fine in Vermont. Sweaters, coats, etc. are a necessity of course, but many CCs live in much colder climates than Vermont.

As for health problems, they consist of patella issues, PRA, cataracts, Legg-Perthes Disease. However, when getting a rescue dog, there's no way of knowing if & when the dog would ever be affected by any of these health issues.

I would suggest you wait to apply until after you've married and settled in to a new place. If you applied now, the home visit would be done at your current location but then would have to be redone in your new home months later prior to approving an adoption.
