Yes, this is possible! Both of my Cresties are potty trained. I use a flat lid type "litter box" and on top of this I lay puppy pee pads at first until they get to know where they go. Then, I use these bed mats that I buy at Sams club. They are about as big as a puppy pee pad but more absorbent I think and they don't have a "scent" on them as the puppy pads do.
It takes alot of practice and patience to get them to go but it's possible. I just tell them "go potty" over and over until they do it and then praise the heck out of them. It helps if you do it around the same time everyday like with us it's right before bed. They need a routine and then they'll go in there during the day all by themselves. They still have "accidents" here and there but that's just them. :)
