Don't have experience with PL in Cresties, but have a mixed breed terrier with PL. The vet could feel the defect in her knee as her knee cap slipped in and out of place. Her x-rays likewise didn't show much. Rimadyl may have helped her pain and inflammation some, but it did nothing for the problem. Surgery corrected her problem, though it was quite extensive and quite traumatic for both of us. Now at 13 she is back to jumping on and off the bed, couch, car seat, etc. and exhibits no indication of pain. Another issue to consider may be a torn ACL. Our Chihuahua exhibited almost identical symptoms to the terrier-mix, but upon x-ray and vet exam showed no signs of PL. Again, Rimadyl didn't do much, but surgery corrected the problem.
