It's four o-clock. Time to excise the race horses." , I said. I had already made cinnamon toast and handed Katie a plate. I just adopted Katie so she was not quite adapted with getting up so early and yawned big. "I'll be at the barn. When you get done go get Lisa out of the pasture and give her a GOOD grooming then find me. Since the ground is hard after that rain we are going to do some hacking instead of breezing Dance Away. We can take a trail ride later. Ok? ”, I said as I stood. " Ok. What should I wear?" She asked. " Wear your jeans and some boots", I answered as I left her room and headed for the barn. ____________________________________________________________ AT THE BARN (10 min. later) I came out of Fly Away’s stall and saw Katie heading in the tack room. In a minute she stepped out and said, "Umm.... Where is Lisa's halter and where is her pasture?". I walked to the tack room and answered, "Here is her halter... and her bridle....and her saddle and saddle pad......and she is in the pasture by the road." She nodded and said ok then turn to get Lisa. ____________________________________________________________ Five mins. Later Katie comes in the barn leading Lisa a tall, sleek Quarter Horse with powerful hindquarters made for barrel racing. Lisa is only 4 years old so she is a bit skittish at times but she seams to like and trust Katie. Katie put her in cross ties facing Dance. She groomed Lisa and saddled her up while I finished fixing Dances saddle then we went to the trail and mounted our horses. I took the lead and after five min. started trotting. “Katie would you like to train Fly Away to jump and use him for your English horse?” I said to Katie. “Sure! I love Fly! Oh and you can call me Kate.” She replied. ____________________________________________________________ 35 mins. later We rode off the trail with sweat-lathered horses and a big smile on our faces. I looked at my watch and turned to Kate, “We need to hurry and cool off our horses so we can feed the others and clean all the stalls, put Lisa on the hot walker and set it to walk then go clean all 4 of our filled stalls. We only have Fly Away, Wind Dancer, Dance Away, her little, Glory Forever who stays with her mom, Dancer, and Lisa but we will have more soon.
