She just woke up.” I said. “Sure” She replied. “Then get her dressed to ride and take her to the barn.” I yelled up the stairs. I pulled on my boots and went to the barn. When I got there Amber was grooming Dance Away, her favorite horse and April was feeding the last horse. I grabbed a pitchfork and started cleaning stalls. April walked up and asked what she should do. “Did Amber get all the horses groomed?” I asked. “She is finishing Cloud Dancer and after that she is done.” April replied. “ Ok wait for her to finish then start saddling Holly, Sunny, Lisa & Dancer. You and Kate can take a trail ride with Ashley on Sunny and Lisa and me and Amber are going to ride the race horses on the track.” I said. She said ok and went to find Amber. I finished the last stall and Katie came walking up with Ashley in tote. Ashley was smiling. Katie set her down in the “barn stroller” that is kept in the tack room then pushed her to me and asked “What should I do?” I told her to tack Lisa and I would watch Ashley. Mine and Amber’s Ride 30 mins. later Me and Amber took Dancer and Holly out of cross ties and headed for the track. “You are just going to gallop ½ a mile then put her up and go get Jazz.” I said to Amber. She nodded and I gave her a leg up then she went onto the track. I mounted and headed clockwise around the out side of the track at a trot. When I got to the ½ mile pole I turned and said “GO!!” to Holly. She burst forward at a fast gallop and headed for the rail. Amber was already almost done so I did not have to hold Holly back any. Amber left the track, hopped off Dancer, and started for the hot walker. We do not have a groom or a jockey so we use the hot walker to cool the horse while we work another one. I did the same then went to get Runaway (her name says it ALL). When I got back with Run all tacked up and ready to go Amber was about to turn at the pole. She rode Jazz almost every day and knew what to do. She turned Jazz and Jazz started to gallop. I went onto the track and Run tried to break into a gallop and I had to circle her 2 times then I took her to the out side rail and asked her to trot. She shook her head then started to trot. At the ½ mile pole I turned her and asked her to gallop she shook her head and started to buck. I pulled hard on the right rein and circled her 5 times then I asked her to “Gallop” and she did. We galloped ¾ a mile then I stood in my stirrups and said “Whoa. Whoa.” She slowed to a canter, then a trot. I pointed her towards the gap and she trotted over there. I then slowed her to a walk, rode through the gap, and dismounted. In the mean time, Amber galloped Shinning Star 1 mile then put her on the hot walker and got Glory ready for when I got done. I put Run on the other hot walker and found Amber and Glory. “Hey” Amber said. “ I see you got Glory ready to lounge. I will work Glory and you can start washing the horses. We have GOTTA get a groom!” I said. I took Glory’s lead and headed for the round pen. I lounged her for 30 min. then put her on the opposite side of the hot walker that Run was on. I went to wash and groom Star. That took 15 min. I then got Run from the hot walker and did the same to her but it took 20 min to do her! By then Amber had got all the horses put away and was in the office sitting down drinking ice tea and waving the paper fan in front of her face. I came in and did the same. 2 min later “Amber have you seen April and Katie?” I asked. “No” she replied. “We better saddle Fly Away and Snicker and see if we can find them and make sure they are ok.” I said sounding a little worried. 5 min. later I mounted Snicker, my barrel horse and Amber mounted Fly, my x-race horse that still had tons of speed left. “ Where should we start? There is 500 acres to cover.” Amber said. I looked around then said “Lets check the jump trail. April might have wanted to do some jumping.” We went to the jump trail and looked for hoof prints. There were some so we started down the trail. About 2 miles down we saw April and Katie. April had Baby Ashley and Katie was about to jump a log that lay on the trail. April was telling Kate to check Sunny. Kate did and then squeezed Sunny with her legs and Sunny flew over it. I clapped and April turned to see who it was. “Oh! Hi, what are you doing here?” She asked. “Looking for you three. What are you guy doing?” I asked. “I was teaching Katie english. She is getting very good.” April replied. “It is almost lunch time and we need to do a lot of stuff so let’s head back.” I said. We walked home so we would not have to cool the horses out. When we got back I took Ashley and April, Katie and Amber took care of the horses then came in to eat lunch.
