Unfortunately most local service centers are not familiar with notebook computers as most vendors either repair it themselves (depot repair) or have a specific 3rd party company do the service. What ever you do, DO NOT take it to a CompUSA, BestBuy, Circuit City, etc. They may be "authorized" service centers for some notebooks, but all they do is send the computer to the actual repair depot. Most places also charge a minimum diagnostic fee ranging from $35 to $85. This is their hourly rate which they apply if they find something wrong. Sorry I can't really recommend anyone here.

As far as you fixing it yourself, I would start with the easy stuff like removing the battery and try powering it on just with AC. Do the same without AC and just using battery. If you have more than 64MB RAM, try removing the second RAM card (located under the computer). On the rare occasion, I've seen one bad RAM card cause the computer not to power up or boot correctly.
