You may not need a BIOS upgrade with the BX440 chipset. I upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional on my Vivante SE with no problems at all. Win 2000 is much more stable than Win98, and the NTFS5 file system is also a big improvment. If you can get Win 2000 at a student discount price, I would go ahead and see if it will work.
