I purchased a Vivante XL when they first came out. It was great but I then handed the computer down to my sister. There have been problems ever since and it's out of warranty. The symptoms are: blank screen during boot half the time, computer gets HOT (can't even put it on your lap), and the computer freezes sometimes during boot, or often after a few minutes to hours of use. They sound like the problems that others are having. I tried to change the cmos battery(old style motherboard) but can't seem to find it. I've taken everything apart except for the pccard area and the floppy drive. Where is the battery located? If it isn't the battery, any idea what it could be? At boot, the fan turns on and runs until Win98 loads, then the fan hardly runs at all. Should I send it into ASE? Any idea on the cost of repair? I'd really like to do it myself if possible. Thanks.
