Subject: Help with PCMCIA cards

I was one of the lucky ones to get my broken LCD display and hard disk fixed under warranty before ASE took their toys and went home.

But, my Vivante SE 366 came back from them with a problem it didn't have when I sent it to them. I used to have a 3Com LAN card in the bottom slot and a 3Com (actually a DELL version) 56K Global Modem in the top slot. I could use them both at the same time. The modem card will not even slip into the bottom slot. The LAN card will fit into either slot. I think this has something to do with Type I and II slots.

Anyway, the problem is that the Transmonde will not recognise the LAN card in the bottom slot now. I have spent many hours on the phone with 3Com techies and they say it must be something to do with the Transmonde. BTW, if I put the LAN card in the top slot, it works like a champ. But, it will not function in the bottom slot and that means I cannot have the modem and the LAN card in at the same time.

I am hoping that one of you gurus will have a hint about how I can resolve it. BTW, it also came back from ASE with the PCI Multimedia Audio Devices listed as a yellow quesiton mark under Others in the Device Manager.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tom
