I'm trying to install an Opcode SonicPort USB audio device on my Vivante SE (small screen), purchased April 99. Often I have to plug in the device several times before it is recognized, and then I get *horrible* crackling noises in audio playback (continuous loud crackle so that it is barely possible to hear the audio---sort of like an old radio with a bad volume potentiometer) which irregularly goes silent. Trying to do stuff using the device's configuration program usually fails when uploading data from the laptop to the device with a "data verification error". This makes me suspect USB problems. I don't have other USB devices but otherwise my laptop works fine.
