Basically what will happen is your BIOS settings will no longer save. You would have the wrong date and time possibly every time you booted up your computer and the BIOS settings would be set to default.

CMOS batteries are fairly cheap and easy to get. I've never had to replace one myself, so I dont' know which you should get... perhaps someone else does?

There are places where you can fax online for free.
