All is not lost. I just got off an extended phone call with Ken, formerly of Transmonde technical support and now at ASE Technologies. He told me that ASE Technololgies is taking over service for Transmonde owners, including offering upgrades and sales of peripherals, etc. ASE also is preparing to post new FAQs for Transmonde systems on the company's web site and that they should be posted soon.

The reason ASE didn't post a phone number is that the facility that will be handling service and upgrades is a manufacturing facility with only two incoming phone lines and no e-mail service. While Ken doesn't know if the facility will get additional phone lines, ASE is planning to have an e-mail address as well as a fax request line for Transmonde owners.

So, it seems that we will be able to get support for our systems after all. Just fax in your questions or requests for processor upgrades. The turnaround for service won't be 48 hours as Transmonde promised, but it should be able to return a computer sent for service or upgrades within a week, he said.

By the way, the Vivante SE has an MMC1 connection. Unfortunately, the system doesn't have AGP, which is the difference between MMC1 and MMC2 connectors. Intel, initially at least, is planning to make the mobile Pentium III chip for MMC2 connectors because Intel assumed anyone who wants a Pentium III is probably more concerned with superior graphics, not just raw processing power. That thinking may change.

Also, Intel is delaying the release of the mobile Pentium III processor for two or three months. Because that would coincide with the holiday buying season, Intel, according to Ken, probably won't introduce the chip until January or February so that people who buy a high-end Pentium II laptop won't return their systems, causing massive losses for major computer manufacturers.
