Much thanks to those who set up this group! I just got the Dear John letter too and after prowling comp.sys.laptops found this.

How about a downloadable source for those BIOS upgrades? I agree reviews aren't that important anymore - however maybe we should take a page from the HP200 and Newton users out there who have not let corporate disengagement sink their ships. Those using and writing for the HP200 have especially begun -- what should I call them - a cult, a hobbyists community, a counterculture? Remember, we're all going to sell these babies used someday and really ought to promote the care and feeding of the vintage Transmonde. If you don't think so, check the healthy communites of other extinct technologies : Ataris, Commodores, Newtons and more.

My vivante SE (march 99) has been pretty good so far, considering. I blamed myself for most of its oddities. The squirrelly touchpad was most annoying problem I could point at. But when I saw that other people had trouble with getting the USB to work I went on full alert. My machine had a terrible time with an AGFA USB scanner, despite lots of tech help from both Transmonde and agfa. All the settings and tests I could do showed there was nothing wrong with the laptop. Tech support offered to test it if I sent it back but this machine is essential to my business and sending it in was'nt possible. So, I figured it must be the scanner and sent IT back. I gave up eventually and got a parallel port scanner which works fine. But I would like to get the USB functional, now that I know it IS the laptop.
Again thanks!
