... cold, breezy, drizzly Sat afternoon in the midst of the '79 winter. I'd finished an early hockey game at St Mary's top field and was winding back to Glen Osmond, via the lacrosse which I liked to watch. A few friends played the game and weren't bad at it. They were up against Brighton who'd been the team to beat for years ... don't remember the score in the end the Blues got up for a fine win in the wind and rain at Day Drive, Pasadena. People partied that night and there was a sorta changing of the guard that night and the core of that team went on the win those 80s flags... but then there were the Gong Shows where one night the Little Combo were doing ok so some other people made up the Little Big Combo. The grand finale was everyone up the front as the Big Big Combo, with anything they could lay there hands on, saucepans and things. I looked up and realised Jack and Sharon were the only two people not jammin', they were sitting back enjoying the whole show. We won! ... and I hope they put the Vic Richardson Gates back up after building the new stands at Adelaide Oval 'cos the plaque lists him having played lacrosse for Sturt in 1921, or something ...
