Just because there are people who are ahead of you in levels doesn't mean you can never get what you want. I don't care if I'm not the first to get a surname...or level 50...so what. What I want to do is have fun..and that involves grouping with friends and going places...traveling with friends, killing with friends. It also involves practices trades and doing business with people... fletching some arrows for a friend and a profit... I don't want to be the highest level on the server, I don't take shit from ANYONE on the server either... Mills or Anks or Evan or anyone mean nothing to me...I don't care what they do, who they are... They are strangers to me... they don't know me, I don't know them. I can get any item I want, it just takes time... items are being added all the time. Sure, when you're the highest level you will be camping stuff you know that exists to get it and you will have a distinct advantage being alone...but what about when they add new items? The Charred Guardian Shield...the Dragoon Dirk on DVinn...items that come out when there are tons of people the level to camp them? Then what? No advantage there... unless you want to be a dickhead and steal the kill from them. There's no such thing as having an advantage forever in EQ... leveling fast means nothing to me, being the highest means nothing to me, being the only one at a spawn spot means nothing to me... I want a Mistmoore shield but every group i'm in will sell it and split the money if we ever kill a glyphed ghoul with one... I don't care that much about having the best equipment..the latest item. Eventually it will be the same no matter where you are, there's no gods and goddess of servers, except GMs and Guides, and there never will be.
