40% of the NBA's players have criminal records. The number of illegitimate children the league has fathered would fill an arena. Artest, supposedly on NBC's "Today Show" to apologize for his actions showed his distain by using his airtime to plug his new CD. So the fans who regard such characters as heroes behave badly, do they? Gee. What a surprise.

Based on a first-of-its-kind investigation into the criminal histories of 177 NBA players from the 2001#150;2002 season, Out of Bounds shows that an alarming four out of every ten NBA players have a police record involving a serious crime. They are All-Stars and they are journeymen, involved in crimes ranging from armed robbery to domestic violence to gun possession to rape.
Out of Bounds takes a hard look at shocking cases, with graphic accounts of physical and sexual violence and other outrageous conduct by players. In all, more than 250 people are named, including many prominent NBA players. It exposes the environment and culture that encourages such criminal behavior. It also explains the unique challenges these cases pose for law-enforcement agencies and prosecutors. And Out of Bounds takes readers inside the hidden yet critically vital role that lawyers, agents, and fame play in insulating criminally accused players from accountability.
Author Jeff Benedict, an expert on athletes and crime, draws his conclusions from exhaustive research. In addition to his criminal-background checks, the author retrieved documents from law-enforcement agencies, courts, and private attorneys. He conducted more than 400 interviews with police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, players, agents, victims, witnesses, and coaches. What emerges is a disturbing and appalling picture of men who live above the law.

The Drudge Report certainly led the way for a new kind of dissident newspaper willing to report what the "mainstream" media wouldn't - but neither it nor the "mainstream" media would follow through with the ugly reality beyond Jesse Jackson's illegitimate daughter, revealed by the Drudge Report on Jan. 17, 2001..
Jesse Jackson is just the tip of an iceberg of a social trend with enormous consequences - a large ethnic group in America in which being born legitimate is the rare exception.
According to last November's "Report To Congress On
Out-Of-Wedlock Childbearing" by the National Center for Health Statistics, 68.7% of black babies are now born illegitimate - meaning well under a third of black American babies are now born legitimate.
No other racial group in America approaches blacks when it
comes to illegitimacy; only 23.6% of European-American babies are now born illegitimate, only 40% of Hispanic ones. That poverty is the result of illegitimacy - not its cause - is shown by the fact that the as-a-group very poor Hispanic community has a far-lower illegitimacy rate.
Not surprisingly - as liberal Congressman Daniel Moynihan was berated for daring to predict in the mid-60s - rising-to-sky-high illegitimacy rates has been a disaster for black America. This past Mar. 29, the Department of Health and Human Services released a report entitled "Family Income In The 1970s: The Demographics Of Black/White Differences" that openly said that "this paper points out a fundamental reason for the slight increase in the black/white income gap: the substantially faster growth of female-headed families among blacks than among whites" - and largely blamed that on illegitimacy. Illegitimacy among blacks was only 25% in 1965 when Moynihan caught hell for his prediction.
By the late 1990s, numerous academic studies of the effects of being born illegitimate today had been done. One of the most interesting was by the National Center for Policy Analysis - which reported that illegitimacy cost $750 billion yearly in a variety of ways - from illegitimate babies being 50% more likely to be born low-birth-weight to being themselves more than twice as likely to have children while still in their teens and well over twice as likely to themselves have illegitimate children.
According to that report, 29.7% of illegitimate children must repeat at least one grade in school - compared to the average rate of 11.6%. By their 30's, those born illegitimate have average income $11,500 less than those from two-parent families; the illegitimate kid is seven times as likely to be poor as the kid in a two-parent family. 70% of kids in long-term juvenile jails didn't live with their fathers when growing up.
The inescapable math of federal statistics is that 36% of
illegitimate births in the U.S. are to the group least able to handle it, financially or otherwise - blacks. If the National Center for Policy Analysis's estimates of the costs of illegitimacy are remotely true, America is paying about $270 billion yearly for black illegitimacy - not to mention such social costs as crime, dysfunctional schools, etc. And no amount of sweet-talking by Jesse Jackson about how he understood his young daughter's situation because he, too, had been born out of wedlock can change
these realities that neither the "mainstream" media nor even most of the dissident media will talk about.

Number of Blacks in Prison Nears 1 Million
"WASHINGTON - Come the new millennium, the number of African American adults behind bars will hit the million mark for the first time, according to an analysis of Justice Department statistics. That represents nearly an eightfold increase from three decades ago, when there were only 133,226 blacks in prison.
By 2000, roughly one in 10 black men will be in prison - a statistic with major social implications because prisoners don't have jobs, pay taxes or care for their children at home. And because many states bar felons from voting, at least one in seven black men will have lost the right to vote.
"These numbers are staggering," said Laurie Levensen, a former federal prosecutor and associate dean of Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. "We're incarcerating an entire generation of people."
Why blacks contribute about half of all prison inmates when they are only 13 percent of the U.S. population is subject to much speculation. Some specialists blame poverty or lack of opportunity. Others say police concentrate in poor urban areas because street crimes such as drug dealing and armed robbery are more visible, and residents there demand more police protection.
