Subject: Where's the beef?

Or, rather, Iraq's great arsenal of WMD? Where's all the sarin, anthrax and high-grade uranium?

The war's pretty much over, so it does no good to protest it anymore. But what happens now? There's no way in hell we can keep Iraq unitary and democratic--given the choice, the shi'ites would split, and so would the Kurds. Besides, the Iraqis have spent the last 20+ years under a tyrant; the average Iraqi doesn't know the first thing about democracy, let alone know how to make it work. Even if the brightest leaders were in charge, democracy would still likely fail. The only good method of introducing democracy to Iraq would be slowly--yet that would mean putting another dictator in charge for another 15-20 years; and when was the last time you saw a dictator willingly step down? Dictatorship makes a person into a god, and no one is willing to give that up.
