That crap has happened before on C-SPAN so that's why the producers usually divide up the phone lines by either party affiliation or pro/con on the topic being discussed. That way approx. half of the calls are from responsible people and the balance can be from the mentally unbalanced and, unfortunately, usually are.

As an aside, I find it disturbing that Rush's substitute host, FauxNews Tony Snow, failed to mention such disgusting rhetoric eminating from the supposed heartland of America while gleefully squealing (he could barely supress a smile) about Islamic fundies in Baghdad mentioning practically the same thing about "America" being judged by god for its' many transgressions over the years.
