Subject: "worth" in life
In reply to: Betsy 's message, "Is life worth living? Why?" on 11:34:29 07/23/01 Mon

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

It in only in the configurations of awareness that we refer to as "life" that value or worth can arise. The value can be positive or negative; in fact, there must be experience of both sorts of valuation in order to perpetuate "life."

Incarnate consciousness (an individual "life") is the product of a willed gesture which has its origin beyond good and evil, benefit or detriment. It is a prodigal adventure inflicted by reality on itself.

Consider the following chapter from The Book of Lies:

ONION-PEELINGS

The Universe is the Practical Joke of the General at the Expense of the Particular, quoth FRATER PERDURABO, and laughed.

But those disciples nearest to him wept, seeing the Universal Sorrow.

Those next to them laughed, seeing the Universal Joke.

Below these certain disciples wept.

Then certain laughed.

Others next wept.

Others next laughed.

Next others wept.

Next others laughed.

Last came those that wept because they could not see the Joke, and those that laughed lest they should be thought not to see the Joke, and thought it safe to act like FRATER PERDURABO.

But though FRATER PERDURABO laughed openly, He also at the same time wept secretly; and in Himself He neither laughed nor wept.

Nor did He mean what He said.

Love is the law, love under will.
