King of the Greenie Board/Rules of Engagement (Season 5)

Harm is now a combat pilot stationed on a carrier in the Adriatic Sea, where he tries to rein in a hot-shot flier. However the flier, Lt. Buxton, shoots down Russian peacekeepers mistaking them for hostile forces. In the second part, “Rules of Engagement” Mac and Bud board the carrier, where they intend to prosecute. But to Mac’s surprise, Buxton selects Harm as his attorney.

True Callings

During a dangerous mission over hostile Serbian territory, Harm's wingman's plane comes under fire. Harm keeps the disabled plane aloft until it’s over friendly territory by pushing it with his plane’s tailhook. Harm assists a young JAG in defending a petty officer who smuggled a pregnant Albanian girl onboard the ship because he believed she was in danger. At the end of this episode Harm makes the decision to return to JAG. Meanwhile, Bud, Tiner and Galindez fall over themselves as they vie to impress the Admiral with tickets to a popular concert.

The Return

Admiral Chegwidden welcomes Harm back to JAG by assigning him a tricky case - defending the son of the Secretary of Navy. Harm takes the case when Lt. Nelson, the son of the Secretary of the Navy, is accused by a respected ship’s captain of disobeying an order at sea, an act worthy of a court martial.

Front and Center

The key eyewitness in an attempted rape trial, a decorated Marine corporal, suddenly goes AWOL after he is asked to testify. Harm and Bud follow his trail, and they begin to uncover disturbing facts about the corporal's past that explain why he needs to stay out of the limelight. This episode features a basketball “shootout” between Harm and the corporal. At the beginning of this episode, Harm receives his second Distinguished Flying Cross in a ceremony in the conference room, and AJ asks Mac to give Harm a congratulatory kiss. At the end of this episode, Mac adopts the dog Jingo.

Psychic Warrior

When a Navy research project involving psychic phenomena goes awry and results in the death of one of its research subjects, Harm defends the admiral in charge of the project. As Mac prosecutes, she steadfastly proves that the admiral's ESP theories are wrong. But when her “little sister” Chloe disappears and Mac experiences a vision that could save Chloe’s life, she begins to have second thoughts about the paranormal.

Rogue

Bud is assigned to accompany Jack Raglan, a former Special Forces operative who is hired by the Pentagon to test security at military bases. Raglan's current mission is to test the security around a U.S. nuclear attack submarine. But when Raglan goes too far and hijacks the sub with Bud on board, Harm is called in to chase the sub down by second guessing his old friend. The cat and mouse game becomes deadly, though, when it appears that Raglan has switched sides, demanding millions of dollars in ransom or he'll take aim on a U.S. target.

The Colonel’s Wife

Harm and Mac travel to Panama in undercover roles to investigate a Marine officer's wife who is suspected of smuggling drugs into the United States. In a dramatic ending, the wife is killed by the drug dealer and Mac saves Harm from being shot by killing the drug dealer. This scene is one of the flashbacks in season 6’s “Lifeline.” This is one of the few episodes in which Harm and Mac are in civilian clothes for the entire show.

Contemptuous Words

Harm faces a court-martial when a letter critical of the President appears on the Op-Ed page of a newspaper and is traced to his computer. As an investigation threatens Harm's promotion as well as his entire career, a well-known conservative organization offers to represent him and Harm accepts. The key to Harm's defense is to find the actual letter-writer, so Bud digs through Harm's old case files searching for those with an axe to grind. At first, Harm believes his nemesis Clark Palmer is responsible for the letter, but he finally discovers the culprit is a staffperson at the conservative organization. This episode features a scene of Harm driving a golf ball, the only time in the series he’s shown participating in this sport. Harm is promoted to full Commander at the end of this episode. Also at the end of this episode, Palmer creates a Swiss bank account for Harm with a large sum of money, a storyline which was never further explained or resolved.

Mishap

Lt. Elizabeth "Skates" Hawkes, Harm's former RIO (radio intercept officer), comes under fire after the crash landing of a tomcat aboard the U.S.S. Patrick Henry. The ship's captain and Skates' commanding officer both place the entire blame of the crash on her shoulders and press for her court-martial. Barred from the investigation because of his relationship with Skates, Harm is finally able to help when he's called upon to defend his friend and employ all of his legal skills to save her military career.

Ghosts of Christmas Past

Harm makes his annual Christmas visit to the Vietnam Veterans Wall and there meets Jenny Lake, who had been a singer with Bob Hope's USO tour. Jenny tells Harm about her 1969 Christmas meeting with his father, and how Harm Sr. saved her life just before his last mission. In the end, Jenny gives Harm the wings that his father had given her, and Harm leaves them at the Wall.

Into the Breech

In a mock trial of a 1990 multiple murder, Mac and Harm assist prep-school cadets, who find real witnesses leading to evidence that contradicts the official findings. Renee Peterson is introduced in this episode as she films a Navy recruiting commercial.

Life or Death

Mac is ordered to make a final appeal for a death-row Marine who opened fire on fellow soldiers. Her plan: attack the initial defense counsel who was A.J. Chegwidden. This is the episode in which Mac and Mic are at dinner, they see Renee seated at a nearby table and speculate on who her date would be. Mac is astonished when Harm joins Renee. At the end of this episode the Jag staff gather at McMurphy’s to say good-bye to Mic, who is returning to Australia.

Cabin Pressure

A ship collides with a reef, trapping Harm with two crew members---one a hotheaded murder suspect---in a compartment that starts to fill with water.

Boomerang – Parts 1 and 2

In Part 1 - At the request of Lt. Cmdr. Brumby, Admiral Chegwidden sends Harm and Bud to Australia to represent a U.S. Naval officer, Kevin Lee, who has suddenly surfaced 28 years after being "murdered" by an Australian sailor. Lee contends that he accidentally killed his Australian nemesis years ago and, in a panic, exchanged identities with the dead man. In Part 2 - Bud gets the brunt of the hostility between Harm and Mic, who face off in---and out of---court, where testimony stuns Harm and his client. Part 2 features the famous ferry scene between Harm and Mac.

People v. Gunny

Gunnery Sgt. Victor Galindez, "Gunny," is charged with assault following an off-duty altercation outside a gay bar. It comes to light that P.O. Tiner was also involved in the brawl, having come to the aid of his companion, whom Gunny was roughing up.
Meanwhile, Mac finds herself wrestling with the "don't ask, don't tell" policy as attitudes toward Tiner change around the office under suspicions that he's gay.

The Bridge at Kang So Ri

Harm and Mac are assigned to investigate charges that American GIs shot and killed civilians during the Korean War. They board a plane for Korea, along with a veteran who claims to have participated in the shootings, and Renee Peterson who is filming a documentary on the incident. Korean terrorists take over the plane and insist on punishing those responsible for the alleged war crime. After the terrorists shoot the pilots, Harm must take the controls and land the jumbo commercial airliner.

Promises

Harm and Mac face-off in court when a female seaman, charged with desertion, claims she left because her recruiter lied to her about what her duties would be. Harm cites recruiter fraud---just as his recruitment commercial hits the air. To Harm’s surprise, Mac calls Renee Peterson as a prosecution witness, forcing Harm to confront Renee on the stand and discredit her testimony.

Drop Zone

Mac prosecutes a Navy SEAL jumpmaster charged with causing the drowning death of one of his parachutists. A file mysteriously lands in her possession containing privileged information that as a prosecutor she is forbidden to see. Against her better judgment, Mac glances at the file, and discovers evidence that supports her case. Harm confronts Lt. Singer, who he suspects “planted” the file. The beginning of this episode is Harm’s dream of the boxing scene between Renee and Mac, which changes to Mic and him.

The Witches of Gulfport

Mac goes undercover to help Harm investigate charges of sexual misconduct against Chief Petty Officer Merker who is the leader of the Wiccans, a local witches’ coven with Navy members. The female seaman who brought the charges claims she was seduced when she fell under the man's spell, but Merker claims the sex was consensual. The Wiccan's attorney is sharp and claims his client is the unfortunate victim. However, Mac learns that another young woman suffered the same fate and presses her to testify. The ending of this episode is the phone sex scene between Mac and Brumby.

Overdue and Presumed Lost

Admiral Chegwidden discovers evidence of a government conspiracy in the wreckage of a World War II submarine that was lost the day before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Much of this episode is shown as flashbacks of what happened to the submariners.

Real Deal SEAL

Lt. Curtis Rivers (Montel Williams), a Medal of Honor-winning Navy SEAL, is court-martialed for punching a Congressional candidate who falsely claims to be a Navy SEAL. Rivers explains that he is on a crusade to expose Navy SEAL impostors. In order to prove his point to Harm, who is assigned to defend him, Rivers places him in the center of a dangerous plot to expose another false SEAL. Though Rivers assures Harm that his safety is in the hands of two legitimate former SEALS, he finds himself alone in court when Harm misses the trial to pursue a lead on the would-be assassin.

Body Talk

Harm gains a new trial for a Navy officer convicted 10 years ago for murdering his wife, but unexpectedly incurs the wrath of the victim's daughter, his friend Lt. Cmdr. Teresa Coulter. Harm feels that the original trial attorney didn't dig deep enough into the case and as he pursues the investigation a new picture begins to develop.

Surface Warfare

Bud's brother is accused of making a mistake during a training exercise that nearly killed 15 Marines. But establishing his innocence proves to be a difficult task, thanks to the age-old tension between the Navy and the Marines. The ending of this episode features the return of Mic Brumby, who surprisingly has resigned his commission to return to Washington and pursue a relationship with Mac.
