In reply to: Nan 's message, "I'm going to start a new thread on 'Retrail' with apologies to Boston Tiger. But this is a pivotal episode as far as Mac is concerned. . .Inside" on 16:10:24 06/18/05 Sat

Your right Nan, there was a lot going on here that I missed the first time. Not only with Mac but Harm also. Did you see the expression his face when he asked her if she would share him? The conversation wasn't about them but Harm was trying to throw a clue I think. I think we were so upset over the whole 9th season that we were just looking for another flip off from tptb instead of paying attention to the show! (NT) -- Samgiz, 12:23:35 06/11/05 Sat

Yes Nan, it was very relieving to see the lack of attraction fromHarm toward Alicia. Especially when the original script called for romantic settings and flirtatious tones between them, and scenes where he watches her walking away liking what he sees, etc. The seeds were planted as you said, but on screen Harm didn't bite. I think the way it played out was much more fitting to Harm's character, and it showed how much he loved Mac. It would take more than a pretty face and an interested female to sway him. That was good to see. (NT) -- Theresa, 12:41:15 06/11/05 Sat

Forgot to add that I agree it was a pivotal episode for Mac, as we saw in the flashbacks in the 4% solution, her coming to him "when she was ready" as he had asked her to, only to see another woman there at his apartment. Granted there was no proof that he was on a "date" but in her stressed state she saw it as another brush off. I think the most important thing about this was to realize that Mac didn't run like she did when Harm turned her away for Renee', but she went to someone who could help her. That's an important change in her pattern of behavior. (NT) -- Theresa, 12:45:24 06/11/05 Sat

I must confess that I don't have a clue about what they were doing with the Alicia character. I just rewatched it and Harm's comments about Alicia being the proper inspiration and Mac's comments about her not being the casual fling type. I do think she thought Harm was interested in her as a woman and finding her at his apartment confirmed those fears in her mind. We never got any of this from Harm's pov so we don't know what he was thinking. It seems to me since some of the 4% scenes were filmed so much earlier than when we saw them something got lost in the translation. (NT) -- manette- but then I'm easliy confused, 14:42:53 06/11/05 Sat

I also enjoyed the episode more and agree it was a pivotal episode. I think Mac was jealous but understood and maybe was happy for Harm that he could find someone. At the time I don’t think she was ready for a relationship and probably felt like less of a woman after what happened with Webb and finding out she had endrometritis. I wonder if the trial for the bigamist is what caused her sleeplessness. I think the first half was a nice lead up to 4% and bringing H/M closer but then in the second half everything became so disjointed till about the last 3 or 4 episodes. (NT) -- Hope, 15:39:59 06/11/05 Sat

One last thing and I promise I'll shut up. I think the whole tenor of the H/M relationship in this ep is Mac being angry/frustrated/jealous/confused by all the stuff that's happened to her (Webb's death/betrayal, endomet, fear of losing Harm, fear of loving Harm, etc.). Harm is coming from a rather perplexed, befuddled place (and we only thought Bud got there)...he'd made his declaration, proved it by doing the research on endo, what was she thinking??? When he asked, "would you share me" I think he was fishing for her to say "no". IMHO (NT) -- clr, 18:02:12 06/11/05 Sat

And for a completely silly thing to note here: check it out, I really believe that the dress the mother whose son was killed in "coming home" wore the same dress that Alicia came to the door with at Harm's place in the flashback in "4%". Now that's a much more interesting wardrobe malfunction than Janet Jackson's. (But not nearly as interesting as that found in We Are All Angels. (NT) -- clr, 17:32:25 06/11/05 Sat
