Regarding #4- I think Mac should have ordered Harm to "dis-robe... immediately!" Ooops- I guess that would not have been a "lawful" order...*damn*!... LOL! (NT) -- Matou, 20:36:25 06/10/05 Fri

I love this ep so number 1) is a 5. 2)I think Harm loved flying more then anything. He always looked happiest when up in the air. 3) I don't think Harm ever did what Buxton did, but he did take changes and was very cocky. 4.) I agree about the disrobing in a private room, of course. (NT) -- judi waving to Matou (how the heck are you?) and Araninda doing a great job as always, 20:54:20 06/10/05 Fri

I guess I give it a 3.5. Liked to see Harm flying but for me personally I like it better when Harm and Mac are working together. I also feel Buxton should have been found guilty. I think Harm loved being back flying but also missed JAG. But it had to feel great to be back doing what he originally wanted to do and to know he still had it in him. I can see him as being very confidant as a young aviator but can’t see him disregarding rules and regulations like Buxton did just to prove he was the best. I think Mac should have order him to her cabin after they were off duty for a demonstration on showing proper ‘respect’ to a superior officer.(NT)--Hope, 20:58:01 06/10/05 Fri

4.0. I think Harm discovered he was ambivalent about flying vs JAG, especially missing Mac (but then ambivalent was a common position for him). Don't think was as egregious as Buxton in flaunting rules, but we know from "Blind Sided" that he almost lost his wings over a training exercise problem. I'd go with Mac ordering him to make her very happy, very soon and very often. BTW, checked the glossary in the UMCJ and under "Legal Weinie" it has a picture of Lt. Ashton (the guy who briefed the pilots on ROE). (NT) -- clr, 21:12:47 06/10/05 Fri

I agree with everything CLR said. I also loved the scenes with the Gunny and the Admiral, and Mac trying to think of something to say to the Admiral (but wisely choosing to stay quiet) (NT) -- spudz, 21:16:56 06/10/05 Fri

I give this double ep a 3. It was fun to watch action Harm and hero Harm and I've still got what it takes Harm....but being the wing's legal advisor you just knew he wouldn't stay out of anything and that he belonged in a courtroom. I think that Harm could have easily been a lot like Buxton earlier in his career - where scoring points and hotdogging was the big thrill. He needed to fly just like Buxton when he says, "The X-man's got to fly." But I think the ramp strike made him realize a lot of things and so when he was able to return to flying he had a more mature approach and valued the experience in a very different way. He still liked the thrill of flying and his "active inner child" as Bud put it that time will always be there...but age, wisdom, common sense and an appreciation for what he had once lost made him value the experience that much more. As for what Mac might have thought about ordering him to do - I think you've already said it all. What she should have ordered him to do...to quote AJ, "Do what you do..."(NT)--Hollyjp, 21:15:31 06/10/05 Fri

I Rules of Engagement better than King of the Greenie Board. In rules of Engagement, I think that Harm realized that he loved being a lawyer better than flying and that he missed working with Mac. I just never liked Buxton and think that he got what he deserved. I don't think that Harm ever really acted like Buxton. Yeah, he was confident, but now obnoxious like Buxton. I agree that Mac should have ordered Harm to her cabin to "go over details." (NT) -- Martian Barb, 21:15:57 06/10/05 Fri

We get a knockout Harm pilot and lawyer. He's the best and he and Mac were engaging and brilliant in court. No way Harm and Buxton are alike. They're both cocky but Buxton is careless, selfish and an a$$.Mac and Bud were cute and in the end so hilarious that Bud gave up flying due to some Harriet time. Im sure these days Harm prefers flying more with Mac than the tomcat.LOL! As for Mac's orders I rather not say because its a steamy one.LOL! (NT) -- T2, 22:20:39 06/10/05 Fri

Your suggested topics are great. I think Harm was delighted to be flying again but that with time he realized his potential there was limited by lost years and also came to appreciate more the significance of what he was doing at JAG as well as missing Mac. I didnt care for Buxton and dont believe Harm would have ever been that selfcentered despite his remark. The second episode I liked especially and would rate it number 5, although it does not equal several from seasons 2 through 4. I may have missent this but dont contribute much and if so pardon me. (NT) -- Truman, 22:33:47 06/10/05 Fri

I give the eps a 4.5. Love Harm flying! Harm may have been as cocky as any fighter jock, but not a egomaniac like Buxton. Harm seemed to be finding out that you can't turn back time. The flying itself may have been the same but he had changed. His point of view in dealing with life on the carrier. His legal weinee work seemed tedious and dealing with Buxton was even more tedious. I think he missed JAG much more than he thought he would and he couldn't recapture the "magic" of his young fighter jock days. (NT) -- Shell, 22:45:36 06/10/05 Fri

Its a 5 on the Harm scale and a 4 on the shipper scale. I loved Harm in that he was everything that both Mic and Buxton werent. He out lawyered Mic(even though they were on the same side) and out flew Buxton. He had more class than both of them combined. (NT) -- mkim, 23:25:44 06/10/05 Fri

I think Harms love of flying ran smack dab into his ambition. He couldnt advance and lead the way he could if he were at JAG.I dont think Harm was like Buxton by any stretch('the X man must fly??? Please!) Mac's lawful order should have been. Tell me how you feel about me, including why you chose me to make the 'baby deal.' We'd have had a wedding in season 5! (NT) -- mkim, 23:30:27 06/10/05 Fri

Something else (while I'm writing a book) Shipper wise. Even though Harm and Mac were on opposing sides and even though he had left JAG, the looks between them, even in simple conversation were full of the chemistry between them. I loved this ep! (NT) -- mkim I think I'm through talking now, 23:37:13 06/10/05 Fri

This is a 4 for me. Harm is loving the flying, but he seems sorta withdrawn, like he knows he doesn't really fit in. And since I'm a Texas Aggie I was sure upset to hear Buxton say he went through ROTC at Texas A&M. Any other Texas Aggies out there? Just a plug....A&M turned out more officers in WWII than all the service academies combined!!! It has great military traditions!! (NT) -- Jaggiegold from Texas, 23:44:54 06/10/05 Fri

I give it a 5 for the action and Harm doing his first love, flying. 2) I think Harm loved flying more than the law, but he also realized that the law challenged him in ways that flying never could. He wanted both worlds, but he couldn't have it and he had ambition and realized that he couldn't advance as a pilot. 3) Harm understood Buxton's comments about being a warrior and not being allowed to do what he was trained to do. I also think Harm pushed the envelope when he was younger although he didn't the rules like Buxton. 4) Decline to answer. (NT) -- abrah, 01:26:51 06/11/05 Sat

oops.... got so busy building a fence, I forgot all about Friday night...and JAG...I know - I should be flogged. LOL... Since I didn't watch the ep in time.. what I want to know is why can't anyone else fill a flight suit like that man??? The screen caps were just fabulous (NT) -- Chris K - who also remembers liking the interactions between skates and Harm...amazing how many memorable characters DPB gave us before shoving Vic down our throats, 06:41:20 06/11/05 Sat

1) I love this series of eps (including "True Callings") because I think it showcases Harm at his best in BOTH of his vocations. I definately give it 5 stars. 2) I know Harm was enjoying his flying. IMO, he was loving it. You can tell by the way he hangs out with the other pilots, jokes in the ready room, gets down to business in the cockpit. It's one of the things he was built to do and he does it so well. When he caught up to the "Peeping Tom" Leer jet w/ the telescope and did everything BUT lock-n-load, that showed that Harm had matured to the point that he knew how to use his aircraft for more than just blasting things out of the sky. As for which he preferred - flying or JAG - he did tell Mac "I'm an aviator now, ma'am" and that he wasn't going to jump in and investigate with her like she expected. I know he was teasing her, but he could have jumped in and discussed the case with her. He didn't. Nor did he give any backward glances toward the court proceedings when he had to put on the flightsuit and "get to work". I really believe, that in these two eps, that he thought of himself as a pilot first an foremost. It's not until "True Callings" that he starts to show as much interest in the legal proceedings as the flying. Since we're not discussing "TC" this week, I'm going to restate that Yes, Harm was enjoying flying, and No, he wasn't missing JAG. 3) "I used to be you." ::shudder:: I still get goosebumps when Harm says that. Why? Because Harm is so much more mature and so much more capable and so much more than a guy in a plane. He's now a serious - dangerous-in-a-good-way - fighting force to be reckoned with because he uses his brain as well as his brawn when he's in the air. As the CAG said, Buxton's brain never caught up to his talent. Harm's brain and talent worked together perfectly. It is truly unfortunate that the Navy has quotas that pilots have to meet in order to promote them to leadership (CAG) status, because I think Harm would have been one of the best CAGs ever. Harm had been a hot-shot pilot before his accident. I don't think he was the brainless glory hound that Buxton was, but he was certainly just as cocky as the rest of the guys. Every time Buxton said "I'm the best," or "You don't think I'm the best, do you," it seemed like he was overcompensating. Like Tuna said, you can say you're the best all you want, but how can you prove it? For Buxton, it was all about himself and having everyone tell him how great he was. He wasn't mission-minded or team-oriented. We never heard him compliment another aviator. The more Buxton claimed to be the best, the less I believed it about him and the more I believed it about Harm. 4) Lawful orders.... Harm: "I will, of course, obey any lawful orders that you give me, ma'am." Mac: "We're in international waters, Commander. You'd be surprised what I might consider 'lawful' out here." Other notes... Did you all catch that awesome view of Harm's arms when he was pouring over all that paperwork in his stateroom? He was wearing a black, short-sleeved shirt that I suppose pilots wear under their flight suits (had a Tomcat embroidered on the mock-neck collar). Mmmmm-MMM! I think I need another weekdend trip to the "Manly Arms"! Hope, where's the screen cap of THAT? LOL The nerdy Fleet JAG officer was named "Lt.Aldridge". I did think it was interesting that while Harm disagreed with Mic's desperate attempt to smear the CAG for not grounding Buxton, Harm went ahead and made his own desperate attempt in the end. The difference was that Harm's argument went toward Buxton's thought process instead of trying to shift blame - more difficult and certainly not slimy. I absolutely adored the scene where Mac introduces Gunny to AJ. In my opinion, it has to be the BEST non-Harm scene in the whole series! The interacions are priceless and perfectly timed. It almost makes me wish we had seen a bit more interacion between AJ and Gunny over the years. What a wonderful show it was (back then). If I recall correctly, this opening series of eps to Season 5 were some of the highest rated eps in all of the 10 years. IMO, it truly was the highest peak in the range.(NT)--The Chief, 09:33:39 06/11/05 Sat

I do think that Harm was enjoying his return to flying, but I think he felt a little out of place being with all the younger guys. And he was definitely missing JAG. He just couldn't stay away from the legal action when Lt Aldridge had to argue a case. As for Harm's comment that he used to be like Buxton, I think he was referring to Buxton's cockiness and propensity for taking chances. However, I think that Buxton was a young Harm to the extreme. I don't think Harm was ever quite as reckless as Buxton, he couldn't have gotten as far as he did if he were. As for Mac's order, she should have ordered him to come to her room and be "direct" with her, no more mincing words, no more ambiguous statements, no more mind reading. And you can interpret the word "direct" anyway you want to as I am sure you will! LOL!(NT)---- JAG Junkie chiming in late, 09:41:04 06/11/05 Sat

You're thinking of "True Callings" where Harm tries to stick his nose into the case. I think that is when Harm starts to WANT that part back in his life, but that doesn't happen in the eps we're talking about this week. In KotGB/RoE, Harm is only involved in Buxton's case because Buxton "hired" him and told Harm things, basically forcing Harm to defend him, or be put on Mac's witness list. Personally, the way Harm acted when he told Buxton that he'd be testifying against him at the FENAB, I kind of get the feeling that Harm really would have rather stayed out of the whole thing if he could have. Again, it wasn't until "True Callings" that Harm starts to reconsider what his "True Calling" really is, so I don't believe that he was missing JAG at all.(NT)--The Chief, 09:46:39 06/11/05 Sat

I really enjoy the scene in "Rules" where Mac comes aboard the ship - the smile on his face as the helio lands which I think says he's glad to see her. And the look on his face when he sees she's been promoted - I don't see that as jealousy - I see the look as him being proud of her. And the great look on his face when he says he's no longer with the Jag Corps. . . (NT) -- Araninda, 12:04:39 06/11/05 Sat

I think he's reacting to a couple of things there. I think he may be proud of her, but I think he's surprised and wondering why she hadn't told him. Some of the dialog says he's teasing her about that. "No. No. You failed to mention that." etc. That was in this ep, wasn't it? Anyway, I think the promotion and the fact that she didn't tell him led to a certain amount of tension even before he got roped into defending Buxton. (NT) -- Dancer, 14:18:25 06/11/05 Sat

1) what that man does for a flightsuit...5. 2)Harm was born to fly. 3)Harm was never Buxton he probably just has negative view of youthful self because of ramp strike. 4) How about an 'up close and personal' tour of the 'ship'?!! (NT) -- Vicky, 17:24:12 06/11/05 Sat

Something else I remembered... The last ep prior to this was Good Byes. Fans had to be clammoring to know what happened. So how did they start the new season? Flight ops! CIC radar guys informing the pilots of what's going on, with orders relayed to "Badman 1". The next thing we see is Harm in the cockpit! Woo hoo! That was a great way to start the season! (NT) -- The Chief, 18:26:59 06/11/05 Sat
