Defenseless - Season 3

What it's about:

Harm is assigned to defend a female ensign who shot and killed a Turkish general who showed up at her place uninvited. The problem is that the Navy has a secret agenda that is in direct conflict with Harm's defense strategy.

Why watch: This is one of my FAVORITE eps. The story is intriguing and interesting, as Harm and Ensign Lane struggle to piece together the events of that night, while teetering on the edge of something dark and secret underlying the whole thing. Harm starts out believing that she is guilty of the charge - premeditated murder - and his mindset is "soften the blow" of whatever sentence she might receive.

However, Ensign Lane has some strong pillars in her corner. Hard evidence as verified by the crime scene photos, and Mac backing her up on her instinct that she was in real danger. Harm being the truth-seeker that he is, is not the kind to discount any evidence that may lead to reduced charges for his client. The more he follows the evidence, and the more Mac encourages him to trust Ensign Lane's instincts, the more he finds to help his case.

This episode contains MANY wonderful images of Harm. His emotions run the course from frustrated to fiercely protective. And it's obvious by the end of the ep he's very interested in Ensign Elizabeth "Beth" Lane. "Dinner, my place, 8:00. I won't take no for an answer." After that, the last few minutes of the ep provide some of the most interesting emotional expressions by Harm. Worried, confused, slightly jilted, and a big case of the "what ifs and if onlys". Harm's last line of the ep and the subsequent looks shared by he and "Beth" are, IMO, extremely telling.

Why tape it: This ep will NOT disappoint no matter how many times you watch it, unless you are a die-hard shipper and can't stand the fact that Harm might show an interest in anyone but Mac. Watching this ep, you will appreciate the subtle nuances of Harm's emotions, the step-by-step piecing together of the evidence, the teamwork of Harm, Mac & Bud (the "good old days" as they say), and not least of all, how amazingly HOT Harm looks throughout this ep. For me, watching this ep certainly leaves me "defenseless" against Harm's amazing charms!
