Subject: Weighing in on the episode (Not bad overall)
In reply to: - 's message, "season eight:Tangled Webb, May 20, 2003" on 03:29:26 05/22/03 Thu

At first, I was upset by this episode for 2 reasons & I couldn't see the good (except that Gunny was still with us!) Now, I'm mellowing. Before I get to the reasons, let me just say:

I love your post CatMom.
And I agree with Manette about the poor Harm send-off if DJE hadn't re-signed.
I think I need to find Lu's happy post again, too.
I'm so glad Brigitta found those missing scenes!

Onto the 2 main things that got me:

(1) I don't like torture. At all. Period. Or seeing those two people shot. We may only have heard the shot, but it produced the same sick effect. I didn't need any "convincing" of who the bad guys were in the episode. Actually, I'm a good little viewer -- just TELL me who the bad guys are and I'll GET it, you don't have to SHOW me a thing!

(2) Webb's character wasn't right. He admitted that he asked Mac along from the beginning under false pretenses ...of her necessity for the "mission". Webb is too put together & cool for this.

Didn't he basically say: "I love you SO much that I want you to voluntarily come with me to hell ... ooops ... to helP .. on a mission that is doomed so that I can declare my undying love to you before we die, and after you get to watch me be tortured (and feel a little helplessness & guilt because I keep saying "Don't hurt Sarah") ... and I will call you "Sarah", which I have never done before (where did THAT come from), give you "looks" and make overtures that go beyond our cover so I can throw you off your emotional game (and that's good how?). The timing is soo right for my declaration of love. The setting is perfect for me to convince you to forget Rabb and come to ME because I'll treat you right."

THIS ISN'T WEBB!!! Lu, is the REAL Webb in your CLOSET??? Let him out!!

And I don't fault the writING or the writERS -- I fault DPB for not leading up properly to this point with Webb. He's certainly had the time to think about this. (And he didn't need to have Webb around in previous episodes to "condition" us to this. Webb could have sent Mac flowers, or called her at work. ANYTHING to sort of bridge the gap. ) And I understand about budget constraints, contracts, blah, blah ... I'm just asking for a few tiny, inexpensive things that would have made it flow better. Oh, yeah .. they're called DETAILS.

I hope they don't KILL Webb. (I hate killing a character & torture.) And if they don't, how will they handle the situation they've created for themselves? Icky mess is what they've made. I feel like a mother telling DPB to go inside and CLEAN UP right now!

Ah, well. The joys of summer hiatus. It's the chance for creators like DPB to get their revenge.
