First of all, I LIKED it. It wasn't Adrift (tense, dramatic, realistic, heartbreaking cliffhanger), it wasn't Washington Holiday (super-sexy cocky sizzlin Harm), and it wasn't Cabin Pressure (a great who-dun-it w/ a wonderful rescue ending, not to mention Harm WET for 30 min), but it was much better than I had exptected.

I will admit there are a few things that disappointed me, and I'll get to all that. But overall, it was a good ep. As a single ep, it had action, drama, and good personal interaction among the characters. As part of a 4-ep arc, it answered some questions but left a few more for part 4.

But here are my specific thoughts.
1) The Mac/Webb issue: Ever since "Embassy", I've had a suspicion in the back of my mind that Webb was "a little bit in love with her" also (the only Mic line that is worth repeating). And maybe he had delusions of grandeur about what he and Mac could have together. He has a lonely job with few opportunities to get close to anyone. Harm & Mac have always treated him well and gone to bat for him. That may have led to him having "fantasies" about what could be w/ Mac. On the sanity scale, spooks are probably near the bottom. He'd have to be a little bit nuts to think that he could have her with the kind of work he's in. It's not like he'd quit the CIA and become an accountant just so he could date Mac.

So, feeling that he's on his "deathbed" he tries to tell Mac/Sarah how he feels (and he's called her that before, I know it. I'll get chapter and verse later). I DO think it was in character for him to say that, to come clean a little since it wasn't "company business". And remember, his brain was a little "fried" so he wasn't thinking like an agent at that moment. But anyway, before he can say those three little words, she stops him with a kiss. "Don't say anymore, Clay. I care about you, but I can't stand to hear another man who's NOT Harm tell me they love me." It was an act of self-preservation on Mac's part. If he DOES die, she won't have Webb's dying declaration to "haunt" her while Harm is trying to get her to concentrate on "the lizard" (thx Trish - that was a hoot!).

2) The Harm/AJ scene: I wanted to see more tension, more arguing, maybe even Harm's voice breaking as he attempted to convince AJ to let him go. Then more fire and determination when Harm declared he would quit. That scene just needed more PASSION! But it was almost a given that Harm would go after her (them). A friend of mine's hubby said, "He's got Harm's paperwork in his desk. He won't file it." Just like w/ Mac's.

3) Harm is the proverbial dog chasing a squirrel. AJ asked him "what if you CAN bring her back? What will you give up to keep her?" and Harm said "I haven't thought that through yet". DUH! Ya gotta have a plan, Rabb! AJ knows it's not just about ensuring the safe return of a collegue. He knows it's all about Harm's feelings for Mac. So he calls Harm on it, because Harm is still too afraid to tell anyone that he can't stand knowing that the woman he loves is in danger. Harm knows it himself now, I believe that, but he's still clueless about expressing it. So Harm, when you finally catch her, what are you going to do with her?? (and we all know what he SHOULD do! LOL)

4) I agree w/ those who say the torture scenes were a little too much also.

3) I REALLY like Coates. The actress is excellent, has great delivery and is hugely convincing. I was touched to see her struggling and to hear her say why. That's when *I* got choked up. I feel the same way. If they don't come back . . . . then what??

6) Did anyone count all the languages used in this ep? English, Spanish, Farsi and German?? LOL All we need are some Russians and we'll be all set!

7) I've got a pile of ideas for the conclusion, and I think we'll touch on the exact scenario by the end of the summer. Maybe not all together, but we know DPB's playbook better than he does. And we've already seen several repetitions in the last few eps.

8) And speaking of rehashings, did anyone notice that Momma Gale used our favorite "Come to me" line on Harm? LOL! (oh, I'll bet the shippers are REALLY puking now! LOL) And Webb told Mac "When I(we?) get back . . " Both lines stolen from Harm in A2.

Please don't fret, shippers. I hate to see you all worked up about this. Sure you're getting your chains yanked, but DPB's been doin' that for years. It's his MO, just like Harm has to crash one plane a year - it's in the contract. I know that's small comfort coming from a non-shipper like myself, but I want those two to get it worked out just as much as you do. Maybe in a different way, but I still want to see them have "SOMETHING".
