What It's About

Harm and Mac are sent to investigate the theft of the Declaration of Independence (from a mail truck in Arizona) – and the mysterious group who took it.

Reasons to Watch – Harm in khakis. Harm in a tank top. A smile "that usually gets you what you want, Commander." More than that, it's Mac's first episode and Bud's first as a regular.

Reasons to Tape – This episode is was the first ep of season 2 and the first ever on CBS. DPB had remade his show, his way for the new network. It marked the beginning of a "beautiful friendship" not only for Harm and Mac, but Bud and the Admiral, too. It's also the first appearance of that debonair spy-about-town, Clayton Webb and his introduction to the phrase "Admiral's Privilege." LOL!

There are so many things in this ep that have gone on to become part of JAG lore – either "real" or in fan fic, that it's hard to know where to start listing them. The rose garden, Diane Schonke, nerdy Bud, "Where did you find this sailor, Sarah," and Mac's uncle Matt all appear prominently in this episode. There are others.

While the plot is nice, for me, the character moments are nicer. There is a ride in a pick-up truck that sets the stage for the whole first season of Harm and Mac interactions – as well as some stellar moments for Bud v. Webb. If you've never seen this episode, consider it part of your further JAGnik education. You can't know where you are unless you know where you've been. LOL! And given the near universal understanding of some of this ep's hallmarks, you might just need to watch it in self-defense. LOL! Enjoy!
