Subject: Noble Death

Noble Death

As I walk the cluttered pathways
of the forest's autumn floor.
So many wondrous sights and smells
assault my sense's doors.
The fresh smell of frosted air,
softly draped on gentle breeze.
Ever shifting multicolored tapestries
adorning all the trees.

The crunching of the fallen leaves
beneath my wandering feet.
Shuffling of the startled grouse
making hasty its ruffled retreat.
The skyward sound of northern geese
as they fly in perfect V.
The laughter of the babbling brook
in its quest to meet the sea.

Fluffy clouds envelope mountain
tops to cap their mighty peaks.
Chattering of the furry squirrel,
nuts stored in puffed up cheeks.
The sunlight burns through morning mist
to shed its warming rays.
Bringing rich colors to the deeper shadows,
once hued in light grays

The chilled freshness of early morn,
charges skip into my gait.
Such a symphony of sight and sound
that mother nature does create.
Even in its time of noble death,
the forest's beauty does still abound.
From the blue of the deepest sky
to the colored leaves upon the ground.
