"Bryson! We will take him alive" commanded Thormantle, disengaging from Septfoil long enough to let Bryson get into the battle with him.

Thormantle rested while Septfoil continued to fight, taunting him all the while. "Make this easy for the both of us. Surrender now, and we'll end this battle quietly. No more of your rabbits have to die. Think of them, and not your hatred of me" he said.

Septfoil thought about it while grappling with Bryson. He was tiring, but still determined. "What should I do?" he asked himself. "I don't want them to die for this. This is my mission. They should not be punished for this."

On the other hand.... "He's asking me to give up and die. I'd rather face the possiblity of death than the certainty of it. We knew the risks when we started out on this journey. We will fight to the end!" he thought fiercely.

He told Thormantle as much. "Not a chance, you sadistic...." His retort was cut short by a lucky swipe by Bryson (or Rafflesia if he joined in this)(SFL), which severed an artery in his neck. The wound started bleeding profusely.

Thormantle looked on with unexpected pleasure. "Oh? Are you sure you won't reconsider? I have a medic (NPC #2) ready and able to help you. All I need is your unconditional surrender" he said, business-like.

Septfoil, already tired from the battle, was rapidly losing consciousness. "No..." he managed to utter, unable to get anything else out before he passed out.

Thormantle shook his head, and spoke to NPC #2. "He's of more use to us alive for the moment. Patch him up" he instructed. The NPC ran off to where he was storing herbs and returned to heal Septfoil's wound.

Thormantle spoke to Bryson and Rafflesia. "We've got more than what we came for. Announce that the battle is over, and instruct the others to take as many prisoners as possible. We want them to witness Septfoil's execution" he told them.

NPC #1 was just beginning to come around. He was clearly in no condition to fight, or do much of anything else for that matter. He was lucky that Lymthiltlay had left him for dead, and not tried to confirm it. He crawled a short distance, all he could manage, and hoped he was close enough to the rah for him to hear him.

"Sir... Help me..." he croaked.

Thormantle looked at the buck. He didn't even remember his name. Which didn't matter to him, for he wouldn't care even if he did remember. "What happened?" he asked flatly, in an almost bored tone of voice.

NPC #1 told him of his brief battle with Lymthiltlay. Thormantle looked over to her and noticed that she was hardly scratched (SFL).

Thormantle thought for a moment. "Yes, I'll help you out" he said. He and NPC #1 looked to NPC #2 for a moment, until Thormantle turned back to the first NPC.

"You've been one of my better fighters, even as old as you are, yet you fail to even inflict any damage on that doe. You've lost miserably. Why should I spend our resources healing you? It would be more trouble than it's worth considering the extent of your wounds. And you lost!" he repeated.

"You are of no more use to me. As a final gift from me, I will save your reputation. You will go down as a martyr, dying for the cause of the warren, your otherwise pristine record unmarred by your pathetic loss that doe. Enjoy your retirement!" Thormantle said with a laugh, slashing a few times at the buck's throat. The buck stared in shock for the few moments it took him to pass out again from the loss of blood. His luck had run out; this time he wouldn't wake again.

His business done, he went back over to NPC #2. "Will he make it" he asked.

NPC #2 nodded. "He will. Though I'd recommend against moving him now. His wound may reopen..."

Thormantle cut him short. "He will return with us to the warren when we are ready to depart. Make sure that he makes it there alive" he said, narrowing his eyes at the medic.

The NPC knew enough about Thormantle to realize the implications of the thinly-veiled threat. "Yes sir" is all he said in response.

Thormantle left the buck and went back to the top of the hill to survey the scene. They had won. And as the first drops of rain began to fall, he knew that today was going to be a good day.

OOC: Rafflesia, I hadn't been posting lately due to the fact that I wanted to do this in my next post, which more or less ends the battle.
